Terms of Service

Stowaway is a way to look at the sky. These terms cover what it is, what it is emphatically not for, how paying works if you choose to, and the limits of what anyone can promise about data that arrives from public radio broadcasts.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using stowaway.live (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

Description of Service

The Service renders a live view of the sky above a location you choose, showing aircraft and satellites that are genuinely passing overhead, and allows you to follow one of them from a simulated vantage point. It is provided for interest and entertainment.

Supporters may also ask about the sky in ordinary words, through a feature called Roger. Answers are generated by an AI model, which may additionally carry out what you asked for — finding a flight, changing where you are standing, or putting you aboard a craft. Everything it can do is something a button in the Service can already do, and every such change is reversible from the interface.

Not for Operational Use

The Service must not be relied upon for any operational, navigational, or safety-critical purpose. It is not an air traffic display, a flight planning tool, or a source of truth about where any aircraft is. Aircraft and satellite positions come from public broadcasts and third-party feeds, and are routinely delayed, incomplete, or absent altogether — many aircraft do not appear at all, and a position shown may not reflect where an aircraft actually is. Terrain, weather, and information about flights and airframes are likewise approximations assembled from outside sources and may be wrong.

This applies with particular force to anything an AI model tells you. Generated answers can be mistaken, out of date, or entirely invented, even when they read as confident and specific. They are not airline information, navigational guidance, or safety advice, and must not be treated as any of those. Where an answer matters to you, check it against the source it claims to come from.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using it, you represent that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

Free and Paid Access

The Service is usable without payment. Some features are available only to supporters on a paid plan — including asking about the sky in words. Paid access is granted through an access key issued when you subscribe.

Your access key is a credential. Anyone holding it has your paid access, so treat it as you would a password. You are responsible for keeping it private and for activity carried out with it. Access keys are subject to rate limits so that a key shared publicly cannot be used to run up costs, and we may revoke a key that is being abused.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
• Attempt to overwhelm, disrupt, or degrade the Service or the third-party services it depends on, including through excessive or automated requests.
• Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract data from the Service, or use it as an unattributed source for another product.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code, shaders, or assets of the Service, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by law.
• Circumvent or attempt to circumvent access controls, rate limits, or billing.
• Use the Service to track, monitor, or identify any individual person.
• Submit questions automatically or in bulk, resell or proxy access to the answering feature, or use it as a general-purpose AI assistant for work unrelated to the sky. It is provided for asking about what is overhead, within the rate limits that apply to your access key, and fair use of it is a condition of the paid plan.
• Attempt to extract, expose, or override the instructions the answering feature operates under, or to make it act outside what the Service’s own controls allow.

Billing and Payments

If you subscribe to a paid plan, the following apply. Payments are handled by our third-party payment processor; we do not receive or store your full card details.

• Subscription fees. You agree to pay the fees described at the time of purchase. Fees are quoted in U.S. dollars unless stated otherwise.
• Billing cycle and renewal. Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis and renew automatically at the end of each period unless canceled beforehand. You authorize us and our payment processor to charge your payment method for each renewal.
• Cancellation. You may cancel at any time. Access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. Partial periods are not refunded.
• Price changes. We may change pricing. We will give at least 30 days’ notice of an increase affecting an existing subscription, and continued use after it takes effect constitutes acceptance.
• Failed payments. If a payment fails, we or our payment processor may retry it and may suspend paid access until payment succeeds.
• Refunds. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law. If you believe you have been charged in error, contact us within 30 days of the charge.
• Taxes. Prices exclude tax. Any sales tax, VAT, or similar charge required by law is calculated and added at purchase based on your location.

Third-Party Data and Services

The Service is built on outside data sources and service providers, several of which are free public services offered as a courtesy by the people who run them. Those services may change, impose limits, or cease to exist, and parts of the Service may degrade or stop working as a result. We do not control them and are not responsible for them. Where a provider requires attribution as a condition of use, that attribution is shown within the Service and may not be removed or obscured.

Intellectual Property

The Service — including its source code, shaders, design, and original assets — is owned by us and protected by intellectual property law. No license to copy, modify, or redistribute it is granted by using the Service. Third-party libraries, data, and imagery incorporated into the Service remain the property of their respective owners and are used under their own licenses, which are unaffected by these Terms and are credited within the Service.

Images you save from the Service using its screenshot feature are yours to keep and share, including publicly and commercially, provided any attribution shown in the image is left intact.

Service Modifications and Termination

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service or any part of it at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms. If we discontinue a paid plan outright, we will refund the unused remainder of any period already paid for.

Which AI model answers questions, and which provider it runs on, may change at any time and without notice. This is deliberate — the Service is built so that the model can be replaced as better or cheaper ones appear — and answers to the same question may differ before and after such a change.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate, or that any defect will be corrected.

No warranty whatsoever is given as to generated content. We do not warrant that an answer produced by an AI model is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any purpose, and we are not responsible for any action taken in reliance on one.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, or data, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or fifty U.S. dollars.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The revised Terms will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date, and material changes will be brought to your attention through the Service. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service.
