Beyond flight tracking

Most flight trackers give you a little plane icon sliding across a map. Stowaway gives you the view instead: the actual sky that plane is flying through, with your horizon, your time of day and the stars that are really out tonight. Then it puts you in the seat.

It's a rendering, of course. But nothing in it is invented. The planes are where they actually are. The satellites are on their actual orbits. The stars are worked out for wherever you happen to be standing. Every bit of it is drawn from something real, and most of it changes while you watch.

Before you try it

Yes. The sky, the planes and the satellites are all free, and you don't need an account. Supporters get sharper ground and a few extras, but you don't need any of that to enjoy it.
Yes, and then some. You get live positions for the planes overhead, from the same public signals every other tracker uses. The difference is what you do with them: instead of a dot on a map, you get 3D flight tracking — the real sky that plane is flying through, and a seat aboard if you want one.
Planes broadcast their own position over ADS-B, a public radio signal anyone with the right receiver can pick up, and volunteers around the world share what they hear. That's what Stowaway reads. It's not a navigation tool, though, so please don't use it as one.
Nope. It runs in any reasonably modern browser, on a desktop, a tablet or your phone. Nothing to download and no account to set up.
The sky works everywhere — stars, planets and satellites are worked out from wherever you are. Planes depend on those volunteer receivers, so coverage is thick over Europe and North America and patchier over oceans and remote places.
Yes. The space station, Starlink, weather satellites and tracked debris are all in there, and all in the right place — their orbits come from the same public catalog astronomers use.
Roger is Stowaway's AI. Supporters can ask him for a view in plain words — “put me over the Alps”, or “find something taking off from Tokyo” — and he picks the right flight and sits you in it. He's named after the radio call.
We use it to work out which sky to draw, and then we're done with it. There are no accounts, we don't sell anything to advertisers or data brokers, and we don't keep a history of where you've been looking. The privacy policy spells it out.
